Chancey Robotics Workshops
The Chancey Elementary Robotics Workshops provides fourth and fifth graders with hands-on science and engineering experience through the Lego Mindstorm robotics program. After learning about the basics of robotics and programming, students construct robots using Lego blocks, motors, servos, and sensors, to simulate real-life engineering challenges.
Then, students apply problem-solving skills to a series of construction challenges for their robots, including moving through a maze, flipping “light switches”, manipulating and moving boxes and tires, and using sensors to improve performance. Through these challenges, students gain experience in design, manufacturing, and programming, skills applicable even beyond STEM fields. Students are provided freedom in design and execution in order to stimulate skills in design and critical thinking, experimentation, and iteration.
